The best wedding venues on the Amalfi Coast (a photographer's guide)

A beautiful venue helps, but one where the day moves easily from ceremony to dinner helps more.

I've photographed weddings at most of the venues on this list, and the ones that produce the best images and the calmest days share a few practical qualities that have nothing to do with how they look online.

Here is how I think about it, as the person who has to photograph the whole day inside them.

How I think about Amalfi Coast wedding venues

When I look at Amalfi Coast wedding venues I look at five things.

Light through the day: which way the main terrace faces, and when it goes into shade.

Flow between spaces: how far the ceremony is from the aperitivo from the dinner. Short is good.

A quiet corner: somewhere to step away for ten minutes of portraits without an audience.

A wet-weather plan: a covered space that is still beautiful, not a conference room.

One wedding a day, or at least not two celebrations sharing the same terrace.

Positano

Le Sirenuse for classic town-centre glamour; Villa TreVille for exclusivity and privacy; Hotel Marincanto for terraces cascading to the sea; Il San Pietro di Positano for a dramatic, design-led setting.

Ravello

Villa Cimbrone for the Terrace of Infinity and a long garden; Villa Rufolo for history and the concert belvedere; Belmond Hotel Caruso for the cliff-edge pool and boat arrivals; Palazzo Avino and Hotel Villa Maria for garden receptions.

Amalfi, Conca dei Marini, Praiano

Hotel Santa Caterina for a cliffside institution with a sea lift; NH Convento di Amalfi for the monastery walkway; Monastero Santa Rosa in Conca dei Marini for a terraced garden on the cliff edge; Casa Angelina in Praiano for minimalist white-on-blue design; the Africana Famous Club, built into a sea cave, for a late party.

Every one of these venues can produce beautiful photographs. The question is whether the day can breathe inside it.

Five questions to ask any venue

Is there a curfew for music, and does it apply indoors and outdoors?

Will there be another wedding on the same day?

Can the ceremony, aperitivo and dinner all happen on site?

What is the wet-weather space, and can I see it?

When is the last boat or transfer for guests?

Choose the venue that makes the timeline simple, and the pictures follow.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the most photogenic Amalfi Coast venue?

Villa Cimbrone and Villa TreVille are probably the two most photographed, but "most photogenic" and "best for your day" are not always the same thing.

Do venues allow drones?

Some do, within the coast's flight restrictions and with weather permitting. Always confirm with the venue in advance.

Can we get married and have the reception in the same venue?

At most hotels, yes. At the historic gardens, dinner usually moves nearby.

How far ahead do venues book?

Prime summer Saturdays go twelve to eighteen months out at the most sought-after venues.

Do you have a venue you always recommend?

No: it depends entirely on your guest count, budget and the kind of day you want.
