Getting ready on a terrace that looks straight down the Amalfi Coast, then a short walk into town for everything else.
For Donato and Ilaria, Le Nereidi in Amalfi was the base for the whole day. We started on the terraces above the sea, then followed the groom and his friends across the piazza. There were petals on the church steps, and we finished with portraits in the old town as the light went.
Le Nereidi, in practice
- Le Nereidi works beautifully for getting ready above the sea, a short walk from the centre of Amalfi. The ceremony and the portraits then happen in town, on foot.
- The pergola with the coastline behind it is the best place to hang the dress and for the first photos of the morning.
- Plan the portraits in the old town for dusk, when the lights of the piazza come on. Amalfi at that hour needs no styling.
The Le Nereidi wedding, a morning above the sea
The dress hung under the pergola with the whole coastline behind it. Ilaria read a letter in the sun, then the bridesmaids helped her into the dress, laughing more than working.

Meanwhile, the groom
In another room Donato got dressed with the help of his friends, which mostly meant jokes about cufflinks and braces. Later they walked across the piazza together and waited by the cathedral.

Leaving for the ceremony
The bridesmaids went down first, bouquets in hand, past the Le Nereidi sign. Then Ilaria stepped out of the door into the light.

Just married, in Amalfi
Out of the church under a shower of petals, a kiss that made her laugh with her hand over her mouth, then a walk through the old town: the striped arches of the cathedral, a terrace over the sea, the steps down to the piazza as the lights came on.

Amalfi at dusk looks good on its own. The trick is being in the right street at the right time.
