Getting married at Parco dei Principi, Sorrento: a photographer's notes

A church in town, terraces facing Vesuvius and the last light on the hotel's pier. Notes from a real wedding.

Getting married at Parco dei Principi, Sorrento: a photographer's notes

White balustrades, majolica floors and Vesuvius straight across the water: a hotel built for looking at the bay.

Antonio and Filomena's morning was a quiet one, all lace and make-up. They married in a church in the centre of Sorrento and spent the evening at the Parco dei Principi, between the terraces and the hotel's pier, while the sun dropped behind the boats.

If you're marrying at the Parco dei Principi

  • Here the ceremony was in a church in Sorrento and everything after it back at the hotel, which is at its best from the late afternoon on.
  • White balustrades and majolica floors are a ready-made setting. The terraces face Vesuvius on one side and the open sea on the other.
  • In the last hour of light, go down to the hotel's pier. The light turns gold, then pink, with the boats lined up on the horizon.

Getting ready

Sandals on patterned tiles and tulle, eye make-up by the window, then the dress: high-necked lace with an open back. Filomena didn't need much direction, only a white wall and a little light.

The ceremony in Sorrento

The ceremony took place in a church in Sorrento, under painted vaults and gold. On the way out, flowers on both sides of the door and both arms in the air.

The Parco dei Principi wedding, on the terraces

Back at the hotel, the terraces open onto the whole gulf: Vesuvius on one side, open sea on the other. A few minutes alone for Filomena along the balustrade and down the garden path, then the two of them together.

In the last hour of light the only instruction was: walk to the end of the pier.

Down to the sea

At the end of the afternoon we went down to the hotel's pier. The light turned gold, then pink, and the boats lined up on the horizon.

Later, one last kiss in the dark, away from the tables.
